Senior Timeline

September- November:

  • Register for a fall SAT or ACT. If your chosen major or university requires an SAT subject test, make sure that you register for one. Be sure to obtain a valid SAT or ACT  I.D. Form if you do not have your driver's license.

  • Begin attending College workshops/Open Houses etc.  Sign up for College Representative meetings in the Guidance Office.  Work on applications and sending transcripts once you are happy with your SAT/ACT scores.  Unless you are interested in an "Early Decision Program, " it's okay to not have applications in until December.  Some schools have "rolling admission" and admit students all year long, but others do not. Try to decide which schools you would like to attend early, so that you may prepare in a timely fashion.

  • Buy your California University in the High School credits, if applicable.  Remember, you MUST meet the deadline for payment, or you will not be permitted to buy these credits.

  • Watch this website and the school announcements for scholarship opportunities.

  • Work diligently on your Senior Project, and obtain help EARLY in the year if you need it.

        December-January:

  • Be prepared to have filed an application for which schools you would like to attend, so that your FAFSA forms can reflect those colleges.

  • Attend the Financial Aid Workshop in the evening at our school ( TBA for this year.).

  • Give your Senior Project Speech in January, and be prepared with all your materials needed.

  • You MAY begin filing your FAFSA form, but you cannot begin the process until your tax information is completed, and it is after January 1st.

February- March:

  • Your family will need to file the FAFSA form at www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or by using a hard copy available in the Guidance Office. This form MUST be filed by May 1 for PA state grants, though you should check to see if the particular school in which you are interested has an earlier financial aid deadline.  You will need to use your tax return information to complete this application, and everyone MUST do this form to use or qualify for student aid.   You may indicate which schools you plan/want to attend, and once you file this form, if you have noted these schools, you will receive a  financial statement regarding their school.  Then you can make your choice using this important knowledge.

  • You should be hearing from the schools to which you applied, and as previously indicated, you can note this on the FAFSA form. Make sure you meet your deposit deadline so that you do not lose your place for admission.

  • Contact the financial aid office of your  college-of-choice to see if financial aid programs exist on a state or campus level. These programs may involve forms and deadlines that exist independently from federal programs and may require additional applications or information from you or your parents.
  • Submit all the necessary paperwork or applications for any private or outside scholarships you may have identified earlier in the year. Be sure that you have submitted all required forms: the college admissions application, the FAFSA, any private scholarship applications, and any state or campus forms required for financial aid programs outside the federal student aid programs.
  • Register for any AP tests you wish to take in May.
  • In March, watch the mail for the Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR is the7 reply to your submitted FAFSA and summarizes your financial aid eligibility for any federal programs.

April-May:

  • Do as well as you can, even at the end of the school year, as many schools require transcripts/grade reports to track you even after your admission to the school!

  • Receive school-admissions notification(s).
  • Compare your financial aid awards to the cost of school attendance.
  • Make a final enrollment decision and submit the enrollment deposit, if requested.
  • Notify any schools that you have chosen not to attend that have accepted you that you will not be attending.
  • Sign and return financial aid forms for the school you will be attending.
  • Make sure you know how to obtain your transcripts after graduation and how to obtain your College in the High School transcripts, using the appropriate form (see the FORMS section on this website or stop in the office).

  • Finalize plans for next year,  so you may have a safe and happy Graduation Day!!!!

       June-July:

  • Complete any remaining financial aid forms.
  • Plan for college orientation, transportation, and housing.
  • Finalize college transportation and housing for the fall.
