Q&A With Softball Coach Dave Briggs

Q: Being Section Champs last year, what will your team need to do to retain the title?
A: "Besides winning more games than the other teams, we need to get good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting. We also need to realize every year is different and we must refocus to meet our goals."

Q: Who are your returning starters?
A: " We have nine girls returning who saw sufficient playing time last year:
Morgan Pratt, Ashley Chernisky, Shayleigh Busti, and Taylor Nichols in the infield, Memry Jordan behind the plate, and Alyssa Workman, Laci Ludrosky, Beth May, and Jade McCann in the outfield."

Q: What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
A: " Every year is different but I expect us to be strong in the following areas: hitting and senior leadership. Our weakness at this point would be inexperience on the mound.

Q: Who will be your main weapon on the mound since the loss of Courtney Newland?
A: "We have two options on the mound with Freshman Kasey Osbourne and Senior Laci Ludrosky. We are much better defensively if we can keep Laci in the outfield. So Kasey is going to get the first shot at it. I am confident she can handle it."

Q: Are you concerned with getting all the games in with the week long band trip with the unpredictable weather?
A: "I was already concerned without the trip because we have to play everybody three times. If we encounter any kind of inclimate weather, we could be playing double headers or Saturdays. We will deal with whatever happens. NO EXCUSES!"
Q: Coming into your 5th season of being head coach, what are your expectations for the team?
A: "I expect my team to practice and play hard, be competitive, and be a positive representation of our school."
